Similarly to comics, written music features visual elements arranged in a sequence. The staves, keys and notes are interpreted by musicians as melodies, sounds and textures, which ultimately form a narration destined to a listening audience. Written annotations may be included by composers to guide musicians and convey specific images, feelings and atmospheres. In a comic, space and time are fundamental elements of the narration expressed by the artist in the form of drawings, and by the page and panels layout. The reader must interpret these visual clues to follow the narration. The question I asked myself was: since time is rhythm, and rhythm is within music, can written music provide an additional sense of time and pace to a wordless comic?

Storm is a comic inspired by Vivaldi’s Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 8, RV 315, L'Estate (Summer). I chose this music piece for this incredible visual energy. I rearranged the three movements of the concerto, and cut and pasted sections of the written music to support the visual narration. Notes by composer Vivaldi (sonnets) are included. They were initially meant to be read while listening to the music.
