Artist bio

Esther Bordet is a Yukon-based comic artist and illustrator originally from France. She attended youth art studios for over a decade, learning a wide range of visual art media and techniques. Then, she was a field geologist for 15 years, working and studying on both Canadian coasts. She has been working full-time as an artist since 2021.

Esther's artistic practice builds upon her analytical and synthesis skills acquired through years of scientific training. As an illustrator, she use 2D mixed media, live graphic recording and animation to support projects in natural and social sciences.

Esther writes and draws her own comics, working mainly with traditional media (ink, watercolour). Her comic Breakup is featured in the Northern Gaze Anthology (Hecate Press, 2021). In 2025, her first graphic novel Makalu was published by Moelle graphik. Her current work-in-progress documentary graphic novel project, Mining Human Stories, questions our relationship with the Earth and its mineral resources. It is guided by Esther's past experience as a field geologist, and focuses on human-scale, relatable stories told by those who live and work in the mining industry.
