Artist bio

Esther Bordet is a Yukon-based comic artist, illustrator and geologist originally from France. She actively contributes to developing the Yukon comic scene and community, and works almost exclusively with traditional media and tools: paintbrushes, inks, watercolours, and paper.

Esther's short comic Breakup is featured in the Northern Gaze Anthology (Hecate Press, 2021). In 2025, her first graphic novel Makalu was published by Moelle graphik. She is currently working on a documentary graphic novel, Mining Human Stories, which questions our relationship with the Earth and its mineral resources. It is guided by her past experience as a field geologist, and focuses on human-scale, relatable stories told by those who live and work in the mining industry.

Esther is also the founder of Boreal Inking Corp., which uses illustration and graphic recording to support projects in natural sciences: geology, water and atmospheric systems, and climate. Over the years, Boreal Inking has collaborated with governments (federal, territorial, Indigenous), academia, and non-profits organizations to create visuals destined to public outreach.
